GREAT GATSBY PAPER
Write an essay on one of the following topics. You must have an introduction, at least
three body paragraphs and a conclusion.
Also, be sure to use textual evidence to support your thesis.
1. GatsbyÕs feelings—love or obsession? How do you know? Is his dream worthwhile?
2. TheyÕre a rotten crowd—youÕre worth the whole
damn bunch,Ó Nick tells Gatsby. Do
you agree?
3. Compare and contrast Gatsby and Tom. How are they
alike? How are they different?
Given the extremely negative light in which Tom is portrayed throughout
the novel, why might Daisy choose to remain with him instead of leaving him for
Gatsby?
3. How is love related to money?
4. What does the novel say about compassion versus
profit? Is greed good?
Introduction: State the thesis
in the introduction. The introduction should clearly state what the essay will
analyze and should be very specific.
