The ten American contributors to this anthology are immigrants themselves. There is also diversity in the origins of the characters who come from Mexico, Cambodia, Russia, Venezuela, and Palestine.

Many of the stories deal with immigrants facing issues of racism and cultural alienation.

Some of the immigrant teenagers face problems from within their own families; parents, for instance, reluctant to see their children assimilate into a new culture.
